Biography
Alyssa Jo Marten (They/She) is a queer, neurodivergent, woman of color who is a dancer, actor, singer and choreographer. With over 20 years of dance training beginning at age 2 in South Florida, Marten earned her BFA in dance with a concentration in Jazz Dance and Choreography from Marymount Manhattan College in New York City. As a Professional Trainee with the Verdon Fosse Legacy, her most notable credits are Cassie Ferguson in A Chorus Line, Fastrada & Dance Captain in Pippin, as well as performing in works created by Dylan Pearce and Adesola Osakalumi. Marten is dedicated to preserving the legacy of Black Dances such as Jazz, Lindy Hop, African Dance, Tap and the subgenres of Hip Hop Dance. Mentored by Broadway veterans such as Jessica Lee Goldyn and Maryann Lamb, Marten has received training from esteemed educators who serve as credible sources in passing down the history of various dances such as Adesola Osakalumi, Lisa La Touche, Omari Wiles, Karen Gayle, Eddie Martinez and Ginger Thatcher. Often Marten has been selected to expand her knowledge through merit based scholarships, gifting her opportunities to train with The Verdon Fosse Legacy, Tanztheater Wuppertal hosted by Gallim Dance Company, Jacob Jonas The Company hosted by Orsolina 28 and Complexions Academy. Through her work, Marten celebrates the richness of Black Dance styles while using her platform to create a safe space that highlights artists, the intersections of their identities and embraces humanity.

BFA in Dance, Concentrating in Jazz Dance and Choreography.
A four year dance program at a Liberal Arts college. Received training from the top educators in New York City, in genres such as Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Modern (Horton, Graham, O'Donell, and Nikolai), Ballet and Contemporary.

The Verdon Fosse Legacy
A rigorous highly selective training program for professionals to study the repertoire of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon, and all of the techniques that influenced Mr.Fosse and Mrs.Verdon.
